Professional Experiential Portfolio for J. William Bennett
|
The first 14 years of my career were involved with systems programming. That is the installation, maintenance and administration of large commercial IBM Operating Systems. I had varied experience with most of the early operating systems from IBM, including: DOS, OS, MFT, MVT, MVS, MVS/XA, VSE/XA and VM. This experience was gained predominately through my employment with GTE Data Services (now Verizon IT) in Ft. Wayne, Indiana [See appraisal]; Interfirst Bank (now Bank of America); Cameron Iron Works (Contract) and extensive IBM contract roles.
I attended Amdahl's IBM Systems Internals classes as well as diagnostic and tuning classes at Amdahl and IBM throughout the 1970's. As late as 2003 I had been installing, maintaining and servicing operating systems. Latter day IBM systems with which I have detailed hand-on experience include: All versions of MVS (XA, ESA, el al); OS/390 R8-R10 Z/OS V3; and AS/400 & OS/400.
Support included the following skills and disciplines:
I spent another 3+ years (1990-1993) as Technical Support Manager for Sysco Corporation. I managed 12 systems programmers responsible for 32 distributed data centers operating IBM mainframe systems, MVS, VM, VSE and AS/400. That team also provided support for AS/400 Chain Stores implementation and Red Brick data warehouse systems [work verification].
Recently (2001-2003) I installed and supported the development lab for a commercial software system that integrated server and mainframe event automation. The lab included an MP3000, Z/OS, 5 LPARs, HCD, VM, OS/390 R10, Win2000 Server, SQL Server, IP Network, et al.
